ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The JNC acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands on which we work, the Gadigal and Bidjigal People of the Eora Nation. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging and acknowledge that these lands always were and always will be Aboriginal lands. We celebrate First Nations Peoples’ connection to the land and recognise the importance of Indigenous voices and culture. We would like to advise that there may be images or videos on this website of people who have since passed.

JNC Volunteer Wins Community Service Award

On Thursday 19th of November the Annual Community Service Awards and the Vi Robbins Award for Volunteer of the Year award, was held at the Alf Kay Eastlakes Community Centre in Eastlakes. These awards provide an opportunity for the community to thank our volunteers for their valuable contribution.

The Vi Robbins Award is named in honour of the late Vi Robbins, who volunteered at the Prince of Wales Hospital until she was 110-years-old!

Janet Green, The JNC General Manager, and Fatma Emir, Acting Volunteer Coordinator, attended the event. To our surprise, Madeline Sharah, JNC Family Progams play group volunteer,  received a Community Service Award. We had a quick chat with Maddy about winning the award:

What do you like about playgroup?

I love seeing the kids faces when they arrive and interacting with the, and seeing how they learn new things. I also like all the activities we do each week.

How did you feel when you heard you name announced for a Community Service Award?

“I felt happy and good I was doing something for the community and felt really good that I am appreciated for what I do each week.”

Have you found somewhere to put the plaque?

I’m going to hang it in my bedroom but I haven’t decided where yet.

The JNC would like to congratulate Maddy on winning a Community Services Award and thank her and all our volunteers for their support and valuable contributions. It’s always a buzz to know that a JNC volunteer has been acknowledged in the community, well done Maddy.
