New Bondi Medicare Mental Health Centre Co-Locating with JNC
JNC is excited about a new partnership with the Bondi Medicare Mental Health Centre, commissioned by CESPHN and operated by New Horizons Enterprises Limited. This has been a fast-paced response to support individuals affected after the horrific shooting at Bondi Beach.
The Bondi Medicare Mental Health Centre will not only act as a short-term response to the Bondi terror attack but will also provide longer term mental health services for the whole community, through soft entry and warm referral options from local organisations. They will offer mental health information, services and support including clinical services and peer support.
After little more than a week’s lead in time, the service was set up and operating from our Bondi Junction Hub in time for the launch by the Minister on 30 January 2026. Our centre is an interim location for the new service while they establish permanent premises in Bondi. Four New Horizons staff will operate out of this temporary site at 59 Newland Street, Bondi Junction, providing psychological support to anyone 18+. This free and accessible service does not require a Medicare card, GP care plans, or diagnosis.
On Friday 30 January JNC staff also attended an interagency forum Psychological, trauma-informed, mental health, and wellbeing recovery planning for mass casualty acts of gun violence and terrorism forum with over 100 people from local community and government organisations. This forum provided the team with insight and knowledge around how to respond to the community in trauma informed and caring ways in the aftermath of December 14. It also explored and developed strategies for the range of local agencies involved to work collaboratively to best respond to the tragedy and provide support to community members in the short and longer term.
In the context of such a tragic event, it is good to see local agencies in the Eastern Suburbs collaborating and developing trauma informed and coordinated responses to community need. Our team continues to build and develop our approach to this and to put in place ways that we can work in partnership with the Bondi Medicare Mental Health Hub. We also continue to explore other opportunities to develop support services for community members.
To celebrate the opening of this service, JNC was part of the launch hosted by Central and Eastern Sydney Primary Health Network, and New Horizions at the Bondi Hub. We acknowledge and extend thanks to all those in attendance, including the Hon. Emma McBridge MP, Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, who launched the centre, the Hon. Rose Jackson MLC, NSW Minister for, Mental Health, and local members the Hon. Matt Thisthlewaite MP and Ms Allegra Spender MP.
The Hon. Matt Thisthlewaite MP shared
“This Medicare Mental Health Centre is part of our Government’s comprehensive mental health support following the terrible events at Bondi Beach.
“If you or someone you know is experiencing distress, it’s important to reach out and seek help.”
We look forward to working with all services involved in this program and as always, connecting local communities.
