ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The JNC acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands on which we work, the Gadigal and Bidjigal People of the Eora Nation. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging and acknowledge that these lands always were and always will be Aboriginal lands. We celebrate First Nations Peoples’ connection to the land and recognise the importance of Indigenous voices and culture. We would like to advise that there may be images or videos on this website of people who have since passed.

Volunteer Voices of The JNC 1: Ann

To celebrate the contributions of our JNC volunteers we have started a new interview series called Volunteer Voices of The JNC. Each month The JNC will interview one of our volunteers to find a little more about what motivates them to offer their time, skills and support. We will also discover and share the unique challenges and highlights of their volunteering experience.

To kick off the new series of interviews Sin, JNC Communications Manager, chatted to Ann McKane. A Maroubra local, Ann volunteers her time weekly supporting the JNC with admin tasks and phone support for clients of our Aged and Disability Services. Ann has the ability to pay attention to detail and is always ready to undertake a task with enthusiasm. Her phone manner is exemplary! The team at JNC Maroubra look froward to seeing Ann each week.

Here are a couple of quotes from Ann to inspire you:

“I like meeting different people, (volunteering) adds to my life. Having all of the experiences I have had have been good, even the hard ones have been good and they’ve brought a different side to my life.”

“Being in private business I have never really met the friendliness that is down at the JNC, everyone seems to be on the same page. I think it’s just a lovely atmosphere.”
