A community in harmony: JNC Harmony Day 2018
“Happy together!” – this simple message came through loud and clear at The Junction Neighbourhood Centre’s (JNC) Harmony Day Event on 21 March 2018. People of all ages and diverse groups, organisations and service providers gathered at Pacific Square in Maroubra to celebrate the importance of inclusion and the richness of diversity in our community.
The event was a medley of high notes:
- Information on free community services – from The JNC and event partners Randwick City Council, Sydney Multicultural Services, Anglicare, NSW Police Force, Multicultural NSW, and Clovelly Community Bank Branch, Bendigo Bank.
- Craft – free henna art and face painting by Ability Links
- Fun – balloons, bubbles and Easter bunny by GiftoftheGab
- Entertainment – song from The Sydney Street Choir; dance from Bellydance Ileana and the Australian Chinese Community Association of NSW; and music from Greek Entertainment.
But for all of us from The JNC, the highest note of all was the spirited participation.
Thanks to everyone who sang along, danced, had their faces painted, chatted about what’s on offer in the community, and talked to people they’d never met before.
And smiled. These happy faces say it all: a community in harmony.
Come along to one of our groups, programs or events, and meet more of your neighbours in our richly diverse community.
“Fantastic – a real multicultural presentation.” – Kay, community member
“Inspiring!” – Ileana, performer, from Bellydance Ileana
“This opportunity for everyone to gather together in harmony with a mixing of different cultures was so harmonious.” – Jacinta, teacher of international students in Maroubra.
