ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The JNC acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands on which we work, the Gadigal and Bidjigal People of the Eora Nation. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging and acknowledge that these lands always were and always will be Aboriginal lands. We celebrate First Nations Peoples’ connection to the land and recognise the importance of Indigenous voices and culture. We would like to advise that there may be images or videos on this website of people who have since passed.

Mindfulness program

In a week we’re starting our ‘Mindfulness for Positive Child Development’ parenting program, to share the many benefits of practising mindfulness.

What’s mindfulness?

It’s a mental state achieved by focusing your awareness on the present moment. At the same time you calmly acknowledge and accept your feelings, thoughts and bodily sensations.

And how can it be useful for you?

Does it always seem like you don’t have time to think? Do you often feel you’re running behind? Believe it or not, taking time out for mindfulness will make it possible to manage everything better. It’s good to stop and:

  • listen to your heartbeat
  • feel the air circulating through your lungs, and
  • think about the things in your life you’re thankful for.

If you have a young child it may seem hard to find time for practising mindfulness. But you’ll gain the benefits of decreased stress and anxiety, more flexible thinking, the ability to focus on tasks more attentively, and an increase in relationship satisfaction. And you’ll be able to enjoy more quality time with your children.

Join us for JNC’s mindfulness program from 16 March, for 3 weeks, live on Zoom from 1-2.30pm. Together we’ll practise techniques you and your kids can use for relaxing, reducing stress and managing distractions. To book or learn more, phone 9349 8200 or email families@jnc.org.au
