Volunteer Vacancies

Volunteers help out with almost everything that we do at JNC – our community groups, events, bus outings, friendly phone calls and more. If you are looking to try out the aged services sector, gain experience working face to face with community members, are on a career break looking for something meaningful to do or just have a few spare hours in the week that you would like to put to good use, we would love to hear from you.

We ask that all Volunteers be willing to join the team for a minimum of three months – but of course, if the role you try doesn’t suit you, you’re welcome to try something else with us or we can suggest other organisations to try locally. Please note that our opportunities are always between Monday-Friday 9-4.30.

For student placement enquiries, please note: Our placements for the current year have been allocated and we do not have staff available to assist with additional student placements, we can sign off on completed volunteer hours only and cannot guarantee any specific learning opportunities to suit course requirements.

Current Volunteering Roles

Assist with our social groups for older people such as knitting or crafts. You will set up the space, help make tea and coffee, and host the group – you do not need to teach or facilitate any activities, but are welcome to learn from the group participants! Opportunities at our Glebe or Maroubra centres.

Join our social shopping outings, helping an older community member with their groceries and other shopping and errands. Currently seeking expressions of interest, with opportunities coming soon..

Assist with our regular bus outings for older people as part of a pool of volunteers. Currently looking for volunteers with weekday availability for occasional day-long volunteer shifts.

Join our team of phone volunteers, making friendly calls to isolated older people living in the community. Currently seeking expressions of interest, with opportunities coming soon.

As the walking group assistant, you will assist the group leader in helping to ensure the group are safe and nobody is left behind! You will also be the second first aid trained person with the group (training is provided by JNC). You need to be prepared to walk at a moderate pace for 2-3 hours, this is a social walking group with mainly older members.

Are you a tech lover? Volunteer with our Let's Get Digital Service in Bondi Junction and connect with your local community by teaching those who aren't so confident on their devices all the tips and tricks that you know. This opportunity is perfect for students who have a few free hours a week.
